Size
This sock measures approximately 3 5/8" from cuff
to bottom of heel at 12 sts/ inch.
Materials
Approximately 25 yards each of Fingering Yarn in 2 colors.
For the Christmas sock: MC- green, CC- red. One set
of 000 (1.5 mm) dp needles. (Or use ndl. size 00, 0,
or 1 if you prefer.)
Gauge
12 sts /inch with 000 needles, but you don't have to
be fussy about this.
Cuff
With MC yarn, cast on 40 sts onto three needles. Join,
being careful not to twist. Work k1, p1 ribbing for
6 rounds.
Leg
With MC yarn, begin chart at lower right hand corner.
You will join the CC yarn in round 6. Strand the yarns
up the inside of the sock when not in use, rather than
cutting and rejoining. Work through round 33.
Heel Flap
Knit 10 sts in MC onto the third needle. Break MC yarn
off. Rearrange the sts on your needles so that the 20
heel sts are on one needle and the other two needles
are holding 10 sts each of the instep.
With the fourth needle and CC yarn, work stockinette
stitch over the 20 heel sts for 19 rows, slipping the
first st of every row, and ending after a wrong side
row.
Turning the Heel
Row 1 (RS): Knit across 12 sts, ssk, turn
Row 2 (WS): Sl 1, p4, p2 tog, turn.
Row 3 (RS): Sl 1, k4, ssk, turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until there are 6 sts remaining,
and you are ready to work a RS row.
Heel Gusset
Join MC yarn and knit across the 6 heel sts, pick up
12 sts, knit across 20 sts of instep, pick up 12 sts,
knit 3 sts from needle 1. This is the new beg of the
round. Total: 50 sts: (15-20-15). Slip 1 st from each
end of needle 2 onto needles 1 and 3: (16-18-16).
Round 1: K12, k2 tog twice, k18, ssk twice, k12. Total
46 sts: (14-18-14).
Round 2 and all even rounds: Knit.
Round 3: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1; needle
2: k18; needle 3: k1, ssk, k to end.
Round 4: Knit even.
Repeat rounds 3 and 4 until 36 sts remain: (9-18-9).
Foot
Knit 17 rounds even in MC. Break off yarn.
Toe
Round 1: Join CC yarn and knit even.
Round 2: *Knit 4, k2 tog, repeat from, *.
Rounds 3-6:Work even.
Round 7: *Knit 3, k2 tog, repeat from *.
Rounds 8-10: Work even.
Round 11: *Knit 2, k2 tog, repeat from *.
Rounds 12-13: Work even.
Round 14: *Knit 1, k2 tog, repeat from *.
Round 15: Work even.
Round 16: *Knit 2 tog, repeat from *.
Break yarn and pull through remaining sts. Weave in
ends and block. |
